Basketball Program Information

The Southern Middle School boys' basketball program consists of three teams: a 6th, 7th, and an 8th-grade team. 

Tryouts begin December 11, 2025. 

Practices and games will begin immediately following the final tryout date. The team will practice and play games during Winter Break. Our Fayette Co./Conference schedule begins the second week of January, but there will be non-conference games/tournaments before that date.

Preseason open gyms/conditioning will take place for each grade level before tryouts begin. All students must have a current KHSAA physical to participate in these activities. These sessions will consist of running and other activities, not just five-on-five scrimmages. These activities are not required for students to attend. Event dates will be posted on the SMS website, in the school building, and will be given on announcements.  

To participate in any athletic event (open gyms and tryouts), each student must have an up-to-date KHSAA athletic physical on file at SMS.
